Canada's federal Liberals have widened their lead over the Conservative Party, with the latest Liaison Strategies weekly tracker putting Prime Minister Mark Carney's Liberals 13 points ahead — one of their largest advantages since March.
Among decided and leaning voters, the Liberals received 44%, compared with 31% for the Conservatives and 13% for the NDP. The Bloc Québécois stood at 6% and the Greens at 3%.
The more significant movement came from the Conservatives. Liberal support increased by only one point, while Conservative support fell three points, widening the gap from nine points the previous week to 13.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre also continues to face challenging personal numbers. The poll found 34% viewed him favourably and 53% unfavourably, while Carney's job approval remained at 57%.
The broader polling picture also favours the Liberals. Nanos Research's latest federal tracking put the Liberals at 45.6% and the Conservatives at 29.1%, while 338Canada noted several recent August polls showing sizeable Liberal leads. Polls, however, remain snapshots of voter sentiment rather than predictions of a future election result.
Liaison surveyed 1,526 Canadians between July 26 and August 8. The poll carries a margin of error of ±2.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
