Mohamed Saad’s film “Family Business” fell to the bottom of Egypt’s box office after recording extremely weak revenues on Monday, earning only EGP 3,800 from just 25 tickets sold across two screens.
The figure has raised questions about the film’s late-stage audience performance, especially after it entered cinemas during the Eid al-Fitr season with stronger early numbers before gradually losing momentum.
The film stars Mohamed Saad alongside Ghada Adel, Heidi Karam, Donia Samy, Mahmoud Abdel Moghny, Ahmed El Rafei and Osama El Hady. It is directed by Wael Ihsan and written by the 3Bros writing workshop.
“Family Business” is presented as a dark comedy about a poor family trying to change its reality through an unusual plan. Family members secretly take jobs inside a wealthy household without revealing that they are related to one another.
Although Mohamed Saad remains one of Egypt’s well-known comedy stars, Monday’s numbers show a sharp decline in audience turnout. Selling only 25 tickets in a full day places the film in a difficult position, especially as cinema screens usually reduce showings when daily demand falls.
The figure does not erase the film’s earlier performance, but it reflects how quickly box office momentum can fade after the first weeks of release. It also opens a wider conversation about whether star power alone is still enough to keep audiences coming to cinemas amid rising ticket prices, new releases and competition from streaming platf
The bottom line is that “Family Business” has not officially exited the race, but its latest box office result is a major setback. Earning only EGP 3,800 from 25 tickets in one day shows how fragile a film’s theatrical run can become once initial audience curiosity fades.
