Morocco’s journey at the 2026 FIFA World Cup ended in the quarterfinals following a 2–0 defeat to France at Boston Stadium on Thursday, sending Les Bleus into the tournament’s final four.

The Atlas Lions entered the match with a disciplined defensive approach, attempting to contain France’s pace and attacking quality. Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou produced an impressive first-half performance, saving a Kylian Mbappé penalty and making several other important stops to keep the match scoreless at halftime.

France finally broke through in the 60th minute when Mbappé found the net with a powerful finish. Six minutes later, he helped set up Ousmane Dembélé for the second goal, effectively ending Morocco’s hopes of another remarkable World Cup comeback.

Morocco attempted to push forward during the closing stages but struggled to create clear opportunities against France’s pressing and organised defensive structure. The French side managed its advantage comfortably and preserved the clean sheet until the final whistle.

Despite the defeat, Morocco leaves the tournament after another strong campaign. The Atlas Lions eliminated the Netherlands on penalties in the Round of 32 before defeating Canada 3–0 in the Round of 16.

France will now face the winner of Spain versus Belgium in the semifinal scheduled for July 14 in Dallas.
