The first session of the Egyptian Cultural Salon, organized by the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Office in Montreal under the leadership of Dr. Ahmed Gaber, will be held on April 24, 2026, in cooperation with the Public Services for the Integration of Immigrants Association (SPDI). The event will feature a discussion and book signing for Stories from the Land of Maple by Egyptian journalist and writer Hossam Mokbel.

Recently published by Arab Thinker Publishing and Distribution House in Cairo, the book reflects on the author’s impressions of life in Canada and explores its natural and human challenges within a multicultural society.

Dr. Ahmed Gaber, Egypt’s cultural attaché in Montreal, said the salon, which will be held once every three months, aims to spotlight Egyptian culture and the creative work of Egyptians in the diaspora, support cultural integration, promote intercultural dialogue, and strengthen ties between the Egyptian and Arab communities and Canada’s cultural scene.

For his part, Hossam Mokbel said that talking about Canada requires many books, not just one. He explained that in this work, he tried to capture details from the journey: what his eyes saw, what his ears heard, and the sense of wonder, questions, and reflections the place left within him. He described the book as not merely the story of a place, but the story of impressions through the eyes of a journalist documenting both observation and personal experience.

Stories from the Land of Maple is the fifth book in Mokbel’s literary journey. His previous works include Travel Lover, a travel literature title; I Am My Number, Therefore I Exist, which examines the impact of social media on daily life; Letters from the Other Shore, a collection of letters co-authored with Dr. Dalal Maqari Baoush; and Migratory Birds, which tells stories of success from the diaspora.
