Toronto is preparing for the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, which opens Thursday, September 10, with an official selection of 293 titles and confirmed appearances by major film and television figures including Gary Oldman, Chris Rock, Andrew Scott, Lee Min-ho and Seth Rogen. The festival runs through September 20.
Opening-day screenings and events will take place across several downtown venues, with Being Heumann scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Visa Screening Room at the Princess of Wales Theatre. The 293-title programme spans feature films, documentaries, shorts and other screen works from Canada and around the world.
Stars with confirmed TIFF appearances
Among the highest-profile names with scheduled festival appearances is Sir Gary Oldman, who will take part in a Visionaries event on Thursday, September 10, at the John W. H. Bassett Theatre.
Irish actor Andrew Scott will appear in an In Conversation With… event at the Royal Alexandra Theatre on September 12, while actor and comedian Chris Rock has his own conversation scheduled at TIFF Lightbox on September 13.
South Korean star Lee Min-ho is scheduled to take the stage at the Princess of Wales Theatre on September 17 for another In Conversation With… event. TIFF has also announced Hudson Williams, the Canadian breakout star of Heated Rivalry, as part of its conversation programme while he attends the festival with the new Crave series Yaga.
Seth Rogen is also scheduled for a Visionaries event on September 13 and is represented in this year's film programme through Babies, which co-stars Anna Kendrick.
Penélope Cruz and Helen Mirren among Tribute honourees
The TIFF Tribute Awards on September 13 are set to bring another group of major international names to Toronto.
This year's honourees include Penélope Cruz, Helen Mirren, Isabelle Huppert, Seth Rogen, Fan Bingbing, Rosalind Eleazar, Siân Heder, Lee Chang-dong, Bassam Tariq and cinematographer Adam Pietkiewicz.
Cruz comes to TIFF with La Bola Negra and Bunker, while Huppert is attending with All About Corinne. Mirren returns to the festival with A Talent for Murder, and Rogen appears in Babies while also serving as a producer and voice performer on the animated feature Tangles.
Being listed in the cast of a TIFF film does not automatically confirm that an actor will appear in Toronto. The names identified as confirmed participants here are therefore limited to artists with announced festival talks, events or honours rather than every major performer featured in the 2026 film lineup.
Where fans can see celebrity arrivals
TIFF will operate two free fan viewing areas along King Street for red-carpet arrivals at the Princess of Wales Theatre and Royal Alexandra Theatre, along with additional fan zones at David Pecaut Square where wristbands will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
A section of King Street West will also become Festival Street from September 10 to 13, closing to vehicles between Peter Street and University Avenue and hosting free screenings, live music, family activities, an art market and food vendors.
Festival activity will extend into Yorkville during the opening weekend, with free public programming from September 10 to 13 including live performances, outdoor screenings and red-carpet experiences.
The 51st Toronto International Film Festival continues through September 20, 2026, with screenings and events across multiple downtown Toronto venues.
