54 Films From 50 Countries Give TIFF’s Centrepiece Its Widest Global Reach

The Toronto International Film Festival has announced 54 titles from filmmakers representing 50 countries for its 2026 Centrepiece programme, combining World Premieres, Canadian cinema and a record number of animated features.
Centrepiece, the Festival’s main programme, includes films from Canada, Palestine, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Nigeria, India, China, Australia and several other countries, reinforcing TIFF’s focus on cinema beyond traditional production centres.
Major World Premieres include Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy, Kamila Andini’s Four Seasons in Java, Daniel Oriahi’s the Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, Roshan Sethi’s the Surgeon and Kris Rey’s Trash Mountain.
Arab cinema is represented by the World Premiere of Palestinian filmmaker Hosam Abu Dan’s Thirteen in Gaza, alongside Muayad Alayan’s Conversation with The Sea and Lebanese director Rami Kodeih’s Furies.
Saudi Arabia is also represented as one of the co-producing countries behind Four Seasons in Java, while the wider lineup includes new work by Diego Luna, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, Anthony Chen and Yonfan.
Canadian filmmakers account for nine World Premieres, including Marie Clements’ How We Stand, David Bezmozgis’ The Betrayers, Cody Lightning’s Smudge the Blades and Juan Andrés Arango’s Where the River Begins.
The programme will also present eight animated features, the largest animation slate in Centrepiece history. The selections include Julián, Light Pillar, Muyi, The Violinist and Viva Carmen.
The lineup reflects TIFF’s effort to expand the international reach of its main programme while strengthening Canadian representation and giving animation a more prominent place within the festival.
TIFF’s 51st edition runs from September 10 to 20, 2026, according to the Festival’s official press release.
