Toronto will become a focal point for global investors this September as Canada hosts the inaugural Canada Investment Summit on September 14 and 15, 2026, an event designed to connect international capital with major Canadian projects and priority industries.
The federal government is hosting the summit in partnership with CPP Investments and PSP Investments, bringing together institutional investors, CEOs, entrepreneurs and business leaders. The agenda will focus on areas including energy, critical minerals, new technologies and artificial intelligence.
The summit forms part of Prime Minister Mark Carney's broader economic strategy to attract substantially more investment into Canada. According to the Prime Minister's Office, the government aims to catalyse more than $1 trillion in total investment over five years, drawing on public, private and institutional capital. Ottawa also says Canada secured approximately $97 billion in foreign investment commitments over the previous year.
Saudi Arabia will provide a significant Gulf investment presence. During his July visit to Jeddah, Carney confirmed that the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) would visit Canada in the fall and attend the summit, where Canadian officials plan to present major investment opportunities.
The announcement followed a broader expansion of Canada-Saudi economic ties. During Carney's visit, Canadian and Saudi companies signed 13 commercial agreements and memorandums of understanding covering sectors including mining, critical minerals, energy, infrastructure and artificial intelligence.
For Canada, the significance of the summit will ultimately depend on whether international interest translates into new financing, projects and investment commitments, particularly as Ottawa seeks to diversify the country's economic relationships and attract long-term global capital.
The federal government says major projects and strategies referred to Canada's Major Projects Office since September 2025 represent more than $126 billion in potential investment, spanning nuclear energy, LNG, critical minerals and transportation infrastructure.
