The head of the Canadian Olympic Committee called on the federal government to increase high performance sport funding after Canada finished the Milano Cortina 2026 Games below its medal target.
He argued core funding hasn’t kept pace with inflation for years, squeezing athlete pathways and making podium success increasingly dependent on personal resources.
The push sets up a broader debate about how Canada finances elite sport and keeps talent development accessible.
