The Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal drew notable Qatari diplomatic presence this year, adding a cultural and international dimension to one of Canada’s most recognized global sporting events.
Qatar’s Ambassador to Canada, H.E. Tariq Ali Faraj Al-Ansari, described his attendance at the Canadian Grand Prix as a wonderful experience, marked by a unique international atmosphere that reflected Canada’s global character. He also noted that this spirit will continue in the Middle East when Doha hosts the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix in November.
Beyond the competition on the track, the two events show how Formula 1 has become a global platform connecting sport, tourism, culture, and diplomacy. From Montreal, a city deeply associated with the history of Formula 1 in Canada, to Doha, which continues to strengthen its position on the international sports map, motorsport is becoming another space where countries and communities meet.
The Canadian Grand Prix is held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal, a circuit that first hosted a Formula 1 World Championship race in 1978 and remains known for its distinctive race-week atmosphere. The 2026 Qatar Grand Prix is scheduled at Lusail International Circuit from November 27 to 29, according to Formula 1’s official calendar.
The shared Formula 1 presence also reflects the wider relationship between Canada and Qatar, where engagement is not limited to politics and business, but extends to culture, sports, tourism, and people-to-people connections.
