Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has suspended 21 Umrah service companies after performance reviews for the previous season revealed weak service levels and regulatory violations.

The ministry said 15 companies were suspended because of low performance scores under approved evaluation indicators, while six others committed regulatory violations requiring formal corrective action.

The decision reflects a stricter oversight approach in the Umrah services sector, as Saudi Arabia seeks to raise service quality for pilgrims and ensure that companies comply with operational and regulatory standards ahead of the next season.

According to the ministry, its evaluation system relies on operational and supervisory indicators that measure service quality and compliance. These tools aim to improve competition among providers, raise performance standards, and support a safer and better organized experience for Umrah pilgrims and visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque.

The significance of the move goes beyond the suspension itself. It sends a clear message to Umrah operators inside and outside Saudi Arabia: poor service and regulatory breaches are no longer treated as routine administrative issues, but as matters that can lead directly to suspension.

For international pilgrims, the decision is also a reminder to choose licensed and reliable companies, review accommodation and transport details before travelling, and keep copies of contracts, bookings and service agreements.

The ministry stressed that it will not tolerate any shortcomings that affect service quality or the rights of Umrah pilgrims, adding that continuous evaluation remains a key tool for improving the sector.

The move is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader effort to regulate Hajj and Umrah services and improve the visitor experience in line with Vision 2030 goals.

In simple terms, Saudi Arabia is making the message clear before the new season: serving pilgrims is no longer just a seasonal business. It is a regulated sector measured by performance, quality and accountability.
