Days before the 2026 FIFA World Cup begins in Canada, the United States, and Mexico, the Opta supercomputer has placed Spain at the top of its pre-tournament predictions, giving La Roja the strongest chance of lifting the trophy.
According to Opta Analyst’s prediction table, Spain lead the title probabilities at 16.04%, followed by France at 13.18%, England at 10.87%, and defending champions Argentina at 10.41%. Opta’s article explains that its supercomputer simulated the tournament 10,000 times, meaning these figures are probability-based forecasts, not final sporting conclusions.
Spain’s position reflects the strength of their current squad and their recent momentum, while France remain the closest challengers despite a difficult group that includes Senegal, Iraq, and Norway. England and Argentina also remain strong contenders, with Argentina entering the tournament as defending champions.
For Arab fans, the 2026 edition carries special importance. Eight Arab national teams have qualified for the tournament: Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq, and Jordan, making it a historic World Cup for Arab football.
Morocco appear to have the strongest Arab chance on paper. Opta lists Morocco among the tournament’s dark horses, giving them a 1.9% chance of winning the World Cup. Their group includes Brazil, Haiti, and Scotland, which makes the opening match against Brazil one of the most important early tests of the tournament.
Egypt have a realistic route to compete for qualification from Group G, where they face Belgium, Iran, and New Zealand. Opta gives Egypt a 0.4% chance of winning the tournament, but a 30.6% chance of reaching the round of 16, with Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush expected to carry much of the attacking responsibility.
Saudi Arabia face a difficult Group H with Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde. Their match against Cape Verde could be decisive, while any positive result against Spain or Uruguay would significantly change their outlook.
Qatar are in Group B with Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Switzerland. The group offers opportunity, but Qatar will need a strong start against experienced and physically demanding opponents.
Tunisia face the Netherlands, Japan, and Sweden in Group F, a technically and tactically demanding group. Their chances may depend on defensive discipline and the ability to turn tight matches into points.
Iraq have one of the hardest assignments, facing France, Senegal, and Norway in Group I. Progress would require near-perfect defensive organization and efficient counterattacking.
Algeria and Jordan share Group J with Argentina and Austria. Argentina are heavy favorites, but the Arab meeting between Algeria and Jordan could become decisive in shaping both teams’ hopes of reaching the knockout rounds.
The numbers favor Europe’s biggest powers, but World Cup history is never written by models alone. Morocco’s run in 2022 remains the strongest reminder that organization, belief, and tournament momentum can overturn expectations.
