Prime Minister Mark Carney attended a Ramadan iftar earlier this week hosted by South Nepean Muslim Community Mosque in Ottawa, where he joined members of the Arab and Muslim community at a local religious and community gathering during the holy month. After the event, Carney posted a message thanking the mosque for the invitation and extending Ramadan greetings.

Photos from the gathering show Carney speaking with attendees, greeting families and children, and posing for commemorative pictures with participants in what appeared to be a community-centered event rather than a strictly formal stop. Other images also captured moments from his walk through the venue and his conversations with organizers and worshippers.

The visit matters because it links political presence with a major religious occasion that continues to bring together families, faith leaders and Muslim communities across Canada during Ramadan. It also reflects the visible role of Ottawa’s Muslim community in local civic life.

Posts from attendees and public figures who were present identified the venue as South Nepean Muslim Community Mosque and described the evening as an iftar gathering attended by community members and invited guests
