Niagara Falls, one of the world’s most iconic natural landmarks, is set to be illuminated in the colours of the Jordanian flag on Monday, May 25, 2026, as the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan marks the 80th anniversary of its Independence Day.

According to the official Niagara Falls illumination schedule, the colours of Jordan, white, green, and red, will appear from 10:30 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. Eastern Time, in a special illumination dedicated to the Independence Day of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Jordanian Embassy in Ottawa also announced that the illumination can be watched through the Niagara Falls live cam.

In Ottawa, Jordan’s ambassador to Canada, Her Excellency Sabah Nizar Rashid Al Rafie, shared scenes from the Jordanian flag-raising ceremony in the Canadian capital on X, expressing pride in commemorating the Kingdom’s 80th Independence Day. She described the occasion as a celebration of Jordan’s achievements and the enduring friendship between Jordan and Canada.

The event carries meaning beyond a formal celebration. It places Jordan visibly within Canada’s public space, from Ottawa to Niagara Falls, turning the illumination into a cultural and diplomatic message that reflects the presence of the Jordanian and Arab communities within Canada’s multicultural society.

The commemoration coincides with official and public celebrations in Jordan marking eight decades of independence. Jordan’s Independence Day is observed annually on May 25, commemorating the country’s independence in 1946.

For Jordanians in Canada, the illumination offers a moment of shared pride. For 15 minutes, one of Canada’s most recognized landmarks becomes a visual bridge between homeland and diaspora, reflecting national identity, community belonging, and the strong ties between Jordan and Canada.

This kind of cultural diplomacy matters because it speaks to people not only through official statements, but through public symbols that can be seen, shared, and remembered.
