Sony Unveils Wearable Neck Cooling Device

a personal cooling and heating gadget designed to be worn around the neck during commuting, travel, outdoor activity, and everyday use.
Although the device is often described as a wearable air conditioner, it does not cool a room like a traditional AC unit. Instead, it uses a cooling plate that touches the upper back near the base of the neck, helping the wearer feel cooler directly on the body. It can also provide warmth in colder conditions.
Sony says the REON POCKET PRO Plus uses an improved cooling algorithm and a more efficient thermal design, delivering up to 20 percent higher cooling performance compared with the previous model. In SMART COOL mode, the cooling plate surface temperature is reduced by an additional 2 degrees Celsius.
The device includes a redesigned neckband called Adaptive Hold Design, created to improve stability while walking or moving lightly. Sony has also updated the airflow exhaust system so users can adjust the vent length and angle, helping release warm air more effectively under different clothing styles.
The new model uses sensors to monitor skin temperature in real time and adjust cooling or heating based on the wearer’s condition and surroundings. It also works with the REON POCKET TAG 2, a small sensor that measures ambient temperature and humidity.
Sony says the device can run for up to 15 hours in SMART COOL mode, though actual battery performance depends on settings, temperature, and usage conditions.
The REON POCKET PRO Plus is expected to be available in the United States in summer 2026 exclusively through Sony’s online store. In Europe, Sony announced a suggested price of €229 or £199. There is no clear official confirmation yet of a Canada launch.
The device reflects a growing market for personal wearable comfort technology as heat waves become a bigger concern in many cities. Still, it is best understood as a personal cooling accessory, not a replacement for home air conditioning or heat-safety precautions.
