The FIFA World Cup 2026 officially kicks off today, Thursday, June 11, in a historic edition co-hosted by Canada, the United States and Mexico. The tournament runs until July 19, featuring 48 teams and 104 matches, with the opening match taking place in Mexico City.
In Toronto, the World Cup atmosphere begins today with FIFA Fan Festival Toronto at Fort York & The Bentway, giving fans a chance to watch live match broadcasts, enjoy entertainment, food vendors, interactive experiences and cultural programming in the heart of the city.

and runs from June 11 to July 19. General admission tickets are free but must be booked online in advance. Today’s program includes the broadcast of the opening match between Mexico and South Africa at 3 p.m. Toronto time, along with live entertainment and fan activities throughout the day. Toronto’s first match as a host city comes tomorrow, June 12, when Canada’s Men’s National Team plays the first-ever men’s FIFA World Cup match on Canadian soil.
Toronto will host six matches during the tournament, ending with a Round of 32 match on July 2, while the fan festival continues through the final on July 19. For residents and visitors without stadium tickets, the festival offers a public way to experience the World Cup atmosphere across selected match days.
