Canada made history at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a commanding 6-0 victory over Qatar at BC Place in Vancouver, securing the men’s national team’s first-ever win in World Cup finals history. The match was played in front of 52,497 fans.

Jonathan David led the Canadian attack with a hat-trick, while Cyle Larin opened the scoring in the 16th minute and Nathan-Dylan Saliba added another in the second half. Qatar also conceded an own goal through Mohammad Mannai, before David completed the rout in stoppage time. Canada Soccer named David Player of the Match.

The result lifted Canada to four points from two matches after its opening 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina, putting the co-hosts top of Group B on goal difference ahead of Switzerland. Qatar remained bottom of the group with one point.

The historic night was overshadowed by a serious injury to Canadian midfielder Ismaël Koné, who was stretchered off after a challenge by Qatar’s Assim Madibo. Canadian reports later said Koné would undergo leg surgery.

Qatar finished the match with nine players after Homam Ahmed was sent off in the first half and Madibo later received a red card following the challenge on Koné.

Canada will next face Switzerland at BC Place in Vancouver on June 24, a match that could be decisive in the battle for qualification from Group B.
