Arab football fans are set for a decisive day at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Friday, June 26, as Egypt face Iran in Seattle and Saudi Arabia take on Cape Verde in Houston in the final round of the group stage. The two matches could shape the path to the round of 32 for both Arab teams.

Egypt enters their final Group G match in a strong position after collecting four points from their first two games, following a draw with Belgium and a win over New Zealand. Reuters reported that Egypt’s first World Cup victory in 92 years put the seven-time African champions in control of the group, while Iran remain dangerous after draws against Belgium and New Zealand.

The Egypt-Iran match will be played at Lumen Field in Seattle at 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time. At the same time, New Zealand face Belgium in Vancouver, meaning the final standings in Group G may shift with every goal in either match. The top two teams in each group qualify automatically for the round of 32, while eight of the best third-placed teams also advance.

The match has also attracted attention beyond the pitch because it is being played in Seattle during the city’s Pride weekend. Reuters reported that both Egypt and Iran objected to the local designation of the game, while FIFA and local organizers have maintained the match arrangements. The sporting stakes, however, remain clear: Egypt are looking to secure their place in the knockout stage, while Iran can still change the group picture with a win.

In Group H, Saudi Arabia face Cape Verde at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time in Houston, while Uruguay meet Spain at the same time in Guadalajara. The Saudi team need a strong result to keep their hopes alive after a difficult defeat to Spain in the previous round.

Cape Verde enter the match with growing confidence after impressive draws against Spain and Uruguay in their first World Cup appearance. Defender Pico Lopes said Cape Verde would show Saudi Arabia the same respect they showed Spain and Uruguay, while coach Bubista described Saudi Arabia as an organized team with strong transitions.

Friday’s World Cup schedule also includes Norway against France in Boston and Senegal against Iraq in Toronto at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time, followed by the two Group H matches at 8:00 p.m. and the two Group G matches at 11:00 p.m.

For Egypt and Saudi Arabia, the final group-stage round arrives with little room for error. Egypt is chasing confirmation of their knockout place from the top of Group G, while Saudi Arabia must respond against a Cape Verde side trying to turn its debut World Cup campaign into a historic qualification.
