Erin Mills in Mississauga hosted a vibrant Ramadan evening as MPP Sheref Sabawy organized a free community iftar that brought together families, members of the Muslim community and local community figures in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The gathering reflected the spirit of Ramadan at its best, bringing people together around the values of unity, generosity and gratitude. It also created a meaningful space for direct connection among local residents, families, community leaders and friends during the holy month.
Guests enjoyed a shared iftar meal along with traditional Arabic sweets, adding a strong cultural and social dimension to the evening and highlighting the importance of community events that bring people together through warmth and mutual respect.
Beyond its celebratory atmosphere, the event also reflected the value of elected representatives maintaining a direct presence within their communities and engaging with residents during important cultural and religious occasions. In that sense, the iftar offered more than a meal. It reinforced trust, visibility and community connection.
The event also underscored how local initiatives can help strengthen inclusion, deepen social bonds and create wider opportunities for dialogue and understanding, especially in a diverse city such as Mississauga.
The evening further reflected the appreciation many residents feel for Sheref Sabawy’s continued engagement with people in his riding and his efforts to remain accessible to the community. It served as a reminder that Ramadan events can function not only as celebrations, but also as moments that strengthen human connection and civic belonging.
In the spirit of the holy month, the iftar stood as a practical expression of bridge-building, solidarity and shared values, offering a positive example of how community life in Canada can be enriched through inclusion, respect and participation.
