Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez’s wedding has drawn widespread attention after new details emerged about the highly private ceremony held on August 11, 2026, in Cascais, Portugal, particularly because Ronaldo’s mother, Dolores Aveiro, and his three siblings were absent. Despite reports suggesting that only four people attended, the ceremony actually included four official witnesses as well as the couple’s five children.

Marriage records identified the four witnesses as Miguel Paixão, Ronaldo’s longtime friend from his Sporting Lisbon years; Ivana Rodríguez, Georgina’s sister; Spanish jeweler José Rodríguez Sangil; and his wife, Mónica González Martínez. Ronaldo and Rodríguez deliberately kept the civil ceremony away from the media spotlight and far smaller than the lavish celebrity wedding many might have expected.

The most notable absences were Ronaldo’s mother Dolores Aveiro and his siblings Hugo, Elma and Katia, prompting speculation over why they were not part of such a significant family occasion. Ronaldo has publicly demonstrated close ties with his family throughout his career, but neither he nor his relatives has officially explained why they did not attend the ceremony.

Speculation intensified after Portuguese television presenter Cristina Ferreira claimed Ronaldo’s relatives may have learned about the wedding only moments before it took place, suggesting that, if they knew at all, it may have been just “30 seconds” beforehand. Ronaldo subsequently responded on social media by questioning how much the television channel actually knew, meaning the last-minute-notice story remains a media claim rather than a confirmed explanation for the family’s absence.

There is also no clear evidence that the absence reflects a family rift. Ronaldo’s mother and his sister Katia reacted warmly to the couple’s wedding announcement on Instagram, leaving heart emojis beneath the photograph showing their wedding rings. For now, the precise reason the family did not attend remains undisclosed, while the available evidence points primarily to Ronaldo and Rodríguez choosing an extremely small and private civil ceremony.
