Jordanian Ambassador Joins Halifax Community Gathering

Jordan’s Ambassador to Canada, Sabah Al Rafie, joined members of the Jordanian community in Halifax for a warm social gathering that reflected the close connection between the embassy and Jordanians living across Canada.

The gathering was organized by the Jordanian Canadian Nashama Society, also known as ملتقى النشامى للجالية الأردنية في كندا/هاليفاكس. It brought together members of the community in an atmosphere shaped by Jordanian warmth, belonging, and shared pride.

According to the society, the ambassador’s presence carried strong symbolic and emotional value for attendees, reflecting not only her diplomatic role but also her genuine closeness to the Jordanian community and her interest in direct communication with its members.

The Jordanian Canadian Nashama Society, led by Nuthaila Rihani, organizes social and cultural events aimed at strengthening ties among Jordanians in Halifax, introducing Jordanian culture to the wider Canadian community, and building bridges with other communities across Nova Scotia.

The gathering comes as the Jordanian community in Halifax prepares for a series of national and cultural events marking Jordan’s 80th Independence Day, highlighting a growing community presence in the civic and cultural life of Nova Scotia.

On May 26, the Jordanian flag is scheduled to be raised at Grand Parade in Halifax at 12:30 p.m. to mark Jordan’s 80th Independence Day. The event is expected to be attended by Halifax Mayor Andy Fillmore, members of the municipality, parliamentary figures, and community representatives. The occasion holds special significance, as it will mark the first time the Jordanian flag is raised in the skies of Nova Scotia.

The society will also hold an Independence Day celebration on June 6 at 321 Main Ave in a potluck format, with the participation of community members, prominent guests, and representatives from different communities, in a festive atmosphere celebrating pride, belonging, and Jordanian identity.
